School Partnerships
New Treks partners with Title 1 schools to teach an outdoor education class during the school day! With the knowledge gained in our classes we then provide the gear, transportation and hands on experiences to make the outdoors more accessible to the youth we serve.
Through regular experiential classes, activities, mini field trips, and full-day outings, we teach a variety of outdoor skills so our students can learn the foundations of rock climbing, paddling, backpacking, and more. We adapt our curriculum to meet the schools’ needs so we can provide the best programming experience possible.
Please email olivia@newtreks.org to schedule a discovery meeting!

Here is an example lesson plan for rock climbing. Each lesson is roughly 60 minutes in length and can be tailored to your schools desired needs.
WILDERNESS FIRST AID TRAINING!
New Treks is a provider for Desert Mountain Medicine! Through DMM we are able to provide our students with medical training and certifications. Theses certifications are good for up to two years and can count towards college credit, depending on the college.
They can earn certifications ranging from: First Aid/CPR, EpiPen Auto Injector, and Wilderness First Aid

AN EXCITING AND NEW CURRICULUM FOR SCHOOLS!
Teaching in schools as an elective class, our students earn credit while learning hard skills associated with rock climbing, paddling, backpacking, and more! Through our lessons and these activities, students gain social-emotional skills that help them navigate life outside of the classroom.

By offering our programming as an in-school class we remove many, if not all, the barriers associated with access to the outdoors. We build trust, familiarity, comfort, and understanding of the outdoors by introducing it as a regular and consistent class for our students.
NORMALIZING THE OUTDOORS THROUGH CONSISTENT IN AND OUT OF THE CLASSROOM EDUCATION!
Our students have earned graduating credit in Environmental Science, Physical Education, Elective Credit, Leadership Classes, and Health and Wellness.
Challenge By Choice
We encourage all of our students to try our activities through Challenge by Choice. Rather than requiring our students to reach a certain point on a climb or paddle a specific portion of the river, we let them decide how much they want to push themselves. While we encourage them to at least try, we recognize that everyone has different comfort and ability levels. For some students, getting into a canoe is enough of a challenge and for others, they want to send it right into the rapids. We want each student to determine for themselves how much they want to push their comfort zone, all while encouraging growth and personal development.
Sliding Scale
We understand each school has their needs, wants, limitations, and budgets. We feel our programming should be accessible and affordable for schools, so we charge on a sliding scale. During our exploratory meeting, we will gather information for a proposal that will include various pricing options. We ask schools to pay what they can so other schools with smaller budgets have the same opportunity.
